Selection of 800 Small Businesses Under 100㎡ Using LP Gas Including Restaurants
Replacement of Rubber Hoses with Metal Pipes and Installation of Gas Leak Alarm Shut-off Devices in Workplaces
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 29th that it will launch an LP gas facility improvement project targeting 800 small business establishments vulnerable to LP gas safety management to proactively prevent gas accidents.
This project is being promoted to improve the situation where small business owners are unable to replace gas facilities due to lack of economic capacity and to reduce the risk of large-scale accidents caused by explosions. The main project contents include ▲replacing existing rubber hoses with metal pipes ▲installing safety devices such as gas leak alarm shut-off devices ▲ensuring safety through completion inspections after gas facility improvements, all of which will be provided free of charge without burdening small business owners.
The replacement targets are small business establishments with an area of less than 100㎡ and LP gas facilities installed with rubber hoses, including 800 establishments such as restaurants and beauty salons. Without a separate application process, the Korean Gas Safety Corporation will finalize and proceed with the project among the establishments recommended by the Seoul City Gas Sales Cooperative.

This improvement project will be conducted from April under the commission of the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters to the Korean Gas Safety Corporation and will be completed by the end of December this year. Choi Tae-young, head of the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, “Since gas accidents can lead to large-scale damage, proactive safety management is important,” and added, “We will actively support the alleviation of difficulties faced by small business owners struggling due to COVID-19 along with strengthening workplace safety.”
