Professor Kim Yang-hyun of Chonnam National University Elected President of the Korean Philosophical Association
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Professor Kim Yanghyun of the Department of Philosophy at Chonnam National University was recently elected as the 54th next president at the regular general meeting of the Korean Philosophical Association held at Konkuk University. The term of office is one year from June 1, 2023.
Professor Kim has served as dean of the College of Humanities and dean of the Graduate School of Culture, and has also served as president of the National Council of Deans of Humanities Colleges at public universities nationwide and co-representative of the Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Development Council of the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The Korean Philosophical Association was established in 1953 after the Korean War and is the largest academic organization in the field of philosophy in Korea, with more than 600 regular members.
It publishes the excellent registered academic journal Philosophy quarterly four times a year and organizes the Korean Philosophers' Federation Academic Conference, a joint academic conference of 54 philosophy-related societies nationwide.
In 2008, it hosted the World Congress of Philosophy, held every five years, for the first time in Asia, and has also held the Korean Ethnic Philosophers' Conference, which brings together Korean philosophers from both South and North Korea and around the world.
It also selects and supports Korean representatives to participate in the International Philosophy Olympiad, an international annual event for middle and high school students.

Professor Kim said, “Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and the damages and future risks brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, now is the time when philosophy must be more active than ever,” adding, “In a situation where the efforts and endeavors of philosophers are required, I will faithfully fulfill my duties as president.”
