View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] As the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant continues, more than 180,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide by 9 PM on the 27th.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, 183,895 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is 126,154 fewer than the 310,049 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
Considering additional confirmed cases reported from 9 PM to midnight, the number of new cases announced on the 28th is expected to be around 200,000.
Typically, the number of tests decreases on weekends and holidays, resulting in fewer confirmed cases due to the weekend effect. On Monday the 21st, the final confirmed cases also recorded 209,137.

From the 21st for one week, the daily new confirmed cases were 209,137 → 353,911 → 490,821 → 395,568 → 339,514 → 335,580 → 318,130, with a weekly daily average of 348,952 cases.
