"How Shall We Proceed?"... Seocho District Mayor Candidates Jeon Seongsu and Hwang Insik 'Contend'
Former Incheon Deputy Mayor Jeon Seongsu and Former Seoul Administrative Director Hwang Insik, both People Power Party candidates for Seocho District Mayor, face public concern over potential loss of talent if one is eliminated
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Among the so-called ‘Gangnam 3 districts’ of Gangnam, Seocho, and Songpa, two prominent preliminary candidates with backgrounds in the civil service exam are competing for the Seocho District Mayor candidacy, which is considered a stronghold of the People Power Party, drawing attention.
Jeon Seong-su, former spokesperson of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Hwang In-sik, former spokesperson of Seoul City.
Both are civil service exam passers with impressive administrative careers, making them administrative experts who are attracting interest even before the candidate results are announced.
Jeon Seong-su, former spokesperson of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Hwang In-sik, former Administrative Director and spokesperson of Seoul City, are senior and junior colleagues who both passed the civil service exam and worked at Seoul City.
Preliminary candidate Jeon Seong-su graduated from Seoul National University Law School and passed the 31st Administrative Examination. He has a distinguished career, having served as Seoul City Administrative Director, Senior Administrative Officer at the Blue House, spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Deputy Mayor of Incheon.
Candidate Jeon is running for Seocho District Mayor after forming a connection as the head of the campaign headquarters when former Seocho District Mayor Cho Eun-hee ran as a Seoul mayoral candidate.
Preliminary candidate Hwang In-sik graduated from Yonsei University Law School and passed the 2nd Local Civil Service Examination. He worked in Seocho District, holding key positions such as Director of the Life Welfare Bureau and Administrative Bureau Director, then moved to Seoul City where he served as Administrative Director, spokesperson, and head of the Han River Project Headquarters. He is an administrator with deep ties to Seocho District.
Candidate Hwang promotes himself as a ‘Seocho man’ with local roots, having served as section chief and bureau chief in Seocho District, and is actively engaging with local public sentiment by visiting the field.
Both have opened local offices and are working hard to raise their profiles.
Because of their impressive careers, there is already talk that if one of the two becomes the Seocho District Mayor candidate, the People Power Party would regret losing the other as a talent.
An official said, “Both are preliminary candidates with excellent qualifications and character, and we do not want to lose either of these talents,” expressing regret.
