[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol had a 25-minute phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 25th.
The call took place from 5:30 PM to 5:55 PM, lasting 25 minutes, according to the spokesperson office of the president-elect.
According to spokesperson Kim Eun-hye, President-elect Yoon and President Xi agreed on advancing bilateral relations and expanding practical cooperation in supply chains, environment, and cultural fields.
During the call, President Xi once again conveyed his congratulations to President-elect Yoon, who expressed his gratitude and congratulated the successful hosting of the Two Sessions. Earlier, President Xi had sent a congratulatory message through Ambassador Xing Haiming to South Korea on the 11th.
Spokesperson Kim stated, "They shared the intention to achieve new development in Korea-China relations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations."
President-elect Yoon said, "I hope we will work together to advance Korea-China relations in the spirit of mutual respect and cooperation," and President Xi responded, "The two countries are 'close neighbors who cannot move away' and should work together to promote stable and long-term development to benefit the peoples of both countries."
In particular, spokesperson Kim reported that President-elect Yoon and President Xi agreed to activate high-level strategic communication to manage Korea-China relationship issues. They also agreed to expand practical cooperation in various fields such as supply chains, health, climate change, environment (fine dust), and culture.
Spokesperson Kim conveyed, "They agreed that reducing the emotional distance between the peoples of the two countries is an important foundation for the development of bilateral relations and will work together on this."
They also agreed to actively cooperate on regional and global issues in line with the elevated international status of both countries over the past 30 years.
Regarding North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)-class launch the previous day, President-elect Yoon expressed, "Due to North Korea's serious provocation, tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in the region have sharply escalated, causing great public concern," and requested, "Let the two countries closely cooperate to realize North Korea's complete denuclearization and stable management of the Korean Peninsula situation," spokesperson Kim reported.
