The Office of Education implemented the ‘Plan for Securing and Utilizing Substitute Teaching Staff to Stabilize Academic Operations’ in February.
The plan includes deploying educational professionals working at the Gyeongnam Office of Education, its affiliated institutions, and education support offices when it is difficult for schools to find substitute teachers due to confirmed teacher cases.
Educational professionals such as supervisors and researchers in the province number 191 in elementary and 175 in secondary education. For elementary schools, support covers all subjects, and for secondary schools, support is provided by subject, with information shared with education support offices to quickly fill educational gaps.
According to the provincial Office of Education, schools with confirmed teachers are filling class gaps through ▲ supplementary teaching among in-school teachers ▲ substitute teachers dedicated to covering absences and temporary teachers, but recently, the surge in confirmed cases has made securing substitute teaching staff difficult.
Educational professionals from the Office of Education and education support offices assist with class support, while administrative staff holding teaching certificates support remote class management to help academic operations.
In response to recent requests for substitute staff from schools, two supervisors from the Secondary Education Department will support math classes at Changwon Mechanical Technical High School on the 25th and 28th, and a supervisor from the Career Education Department will support technology classes at Chungmu Middle School on the 29th.
In the Elementary Education Department, 54 elementary education professionals within the provincial Office of Education are on standby and will immediately conduct classes upon school requests.
The Gimhae Education Support Office urgently sent one supervisor to Imho Elementary School to support classes from the 23rd to the 25th, and from the 24th to the 29th, two supervisors have been supporting Ijak Elementary School.
The Changwon Education Support Office provided 15 substitute staff to six elementary, middle, and high schools until the 24th, and the Jinju Education Support Office sent one supervisor to Sinan Elementary School on the 25th.
A supervisor who supported Korean language classes at Seokdong Middle School on the 23rd said, “I felt rewarded to be able to help the school in a difficult situation,” and added, “I taught diligently with the mindset of returning to my days as a teacher.”
Ryu Jin-yeol, principal of Changwon Mechanical Technical High School, said, “It is very reassuring to share the difficulties on site and receive support for classes.”
