According to local media reports such as NBC Miami and CBS Miami on the 23rd (local time), the incident took place around 9:30 p.m. on the 20th inside a Walmart in Miami, Florida.
The suspect, Jamal Bredan Harvey (28), suddenly lifted the dress of a woman who was shopping inside the store that day from behind. When the startled victim turned around, Harvey pushed her to the floor. Harvey grabbed the victim’s body with his hands and even tore her underwear.
When the victim screamed, nearby customers rushed over and separated Harvey from the victim. Videos released by local media show three strong men holding Harvey’s arms, head, and other body parts.
They pinned Harvey to the ground to prevent him from escaping and waited until the police arrived. Meanwhile, other customers took care of the victim and checked if she had any injuries.
A witness told local media, "I am at a loss for words. I often come to Walmart, but now I am afraid to go shopping," expressing anxiety, "I feel like someone could approach and harass me."
Local police charged Harvey with attempted sexual assault, and his bail was set at $50,000 (about 60 million KRW). Additionally, Harvey was issued a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching the victim and Walmart due to this incident.
There is also speculation that Harvey may have committed similar acts before. The police stated, "The store is an open place, but Harvey attacked the woman without hesitation. It was a brazen act," adding, "He may have done this before, and we expect there could be more victims."
