‘Achieving Carbon Neutrality’ Jangheung-gun and Private Organizations Hold Tree Planting Event
Planting 500 Pine Trees Locally
[Jangheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Gwan-san-eup and the Gwan-san-eup Saemaeul Association in Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced that they held a tree planting event on the 23rd to commemorate the 77th Arbor Day, focusing on wildfire prevention and carbon reduction.
About 100 people, including public officials and members of the Saemaeul men’s and women’s associations, attended the event.
The participants planted 500 trees, including Taxodium distichum and pine trees, in the Goeupcheon Ecological Park area of Gwan-san-eup to achieve carbon neutrality.
Taxodium distichum and pine trees are species with a high ability to reduce fine dust and are among the major afforestation species recommended by the Korea Forest Service.
Gwan-san-eup plans to create a space where residents can heal by reducing fine dust through additional tree planting in the Goeupcheon Ecological Park.
Kim Juho, head of Gwan-san-eup, said the event “hopes to serve as a foundation for low-carbon green growth in response to climate change” and pledged to do his best to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
