However, it stated that the division of the ministry's functions or the formation of alternative organizations will be matters for future discussion.
Won Il-hee, the PTC senior deputy spokesperson, said at the PTC regular briefing on the afternoon of the 24th, "During the briefing on the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the abolition of the ministry has already been confirmed within the PTC," emphasizing, "It is a promise that has never changed even once during the election process."
Deputy Spokesperson Won added, "Since the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family was established, it has failed to perform its functions when power-related sexual crimes occurred in recent years," and said, "The current stage is to abolish the ministry and comprehensively review how to handle its functions going forward, and to disclose the plan to the public."
Shin Yong-hyun, the PTC spokesperson, also reaffirmed the abolition policy, stating, "Since the President-elect confirmed that abolishing the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family was a campaign pledge, there will be no continuation under the name 'Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.'
However, he refrained from commenting on specific alternative plans after the ministry's abolition. Spokesperson Shin explained, "There are various options, such as dividing the tasks previously handled by the ministry among other ministries, or creating another government organization to replace or comprehensively perform those tasks, but no concrete discussions have taken place yet."
Meanwhile, the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is a key pledge of President-elect Yoon and has sparked strong opposition from women's organizations since his election was confirmed.
