"Organized Around Core Tasks" Next Week's National Agenda Selection Process Begins
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the presidential transition committee, stated that he plans to create several options regarding the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and have President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol make a decision. The transition committee will begin the selection of national tasks in earnest starting next week.
On the morning of the 25th, at the transition committee's tent press room in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Chairman Ahn said, "We will create several options for parts of the current system that may change and seek President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's judgment." He also expressed that opinions and voices from women's organizations could be reflected through meetings. Chairman Ahn explained, "There are meetings held in the form of discussions with women's organizations. The purpose is completely different from government department reports; it is to listen to various difficulties and directions for development."
Regarding the selection of national tasks, Chairman Ahn emphasized, "If we list 100 tasks, there are cases where promises are not properly kept over five years. We decided to select mainly focused and core tasks that can be accomplished within the first 100 days of the new administration."
On the issue of merging the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and ICT, he said, "That was a pledge I made during my presidential campaign. How the newly launched government will handle it is a matter to be discussed," drawing a clear line.
Regarding the supplementary budget (추경) forecasted at 50 trillion won, Chairman Ahn explained, "The Ministry of Economy and Finance is preparing it internally. You can understand that the work is already underway." On the extension of loan maturities for small business owners, he said, "We will cooperate with the Financial Services Commission, financial institutions, and the COVID-19 special committee to create an overall plan."

Chairman Ahn also mentioned the Ministry of Justice's work report, saying, "It has been postponed to next Tuesday (the 29th). We will review it over the weekend, but the work report must be received next week."
