"Grow Strong and Healthy!" Release of Juvenile Abalone in Hyeonpo and Tonggumi Village Fishing Grounds, Ulleung-gun
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulleung County released juvenile abalones on the 24th to increase the income of Ulleung fishermen and restore marine resources.
This project is carried out annually in five cities and counties in Gyeongbuk Province, including Ulleung, Pohang, Gyeongju, Yeongdeok, and Uljin. In Ulleung County, it is actively conducted in Tonggumi, Seo-myeon, and Hyeonpo-ri village, Buk-myeon.
Only healthy seeds over 3.5 cm that passed infectious disease inspections were selected and released, with a total of 66,000 abalones released, 33,000 in each location.
The county expects the demand for abalone, a healthy food that boosts energy, to continue increasing as outdoor activities have been restricted due to COVID-19 and more time is spent at home.
Kim Byung-soo, the governor of Ulleung County, said, “We will continue to strive to strengthen Ulleung Island’s fishing competitiveness by creating a bountiful sea and fostering diverse marine resources,” adding, “We hope this release will contribute to increasing fishermen’s income.”
