The metaverse is a compound word of ‘Meta,’ meaning virtual, and ‘Universe,’ meaning the real world, referring to a space that blends reality and virtual worlds. Recently, with the advancement of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies through artificial intelligence, the metaverse world is becoming more sophisticated. It can be described as a virtual social area where users create and personalize their avatars and perform activities that take place in real life.
As one of the rapidly emerging technologies across all industries and social sectors, especially after COVID-19, the metaverse presents greater potential impact and infinite possibilities to public local governments and universities lamenting the lack of immersive experiences in fields such as culture, tourism, and education. It is attracting significant attention as a definitive solution, and government policies and agreements among local governments to foster the metaverse industry are actively being pursued.
According to this agreement, the two companies have selected the domestic public and education sectors as priority cooperation targets and will jointly invest and collaborate on technology development for a Unity-based metaverse education platform optimized for the market needs, along with custom editor tool development.
Accordingly, Cloukus will support overall technology and infrastructure for public and hybrid cloud services essential for building the metaverse platform, while Unity will provide ▲Unity development resources, licenses, platform construction and management necessary for this business, and ▲comprehensive cooperation as an interactive content production company.
Unity is a global leader in real-time 3D development platforms and distributes software used to build world-class metaverse platforms such as Meta’s (formerly Facebook) ‘Horizon Worlds’ and Naver Z’s ‘Zepeto’ across various industries.
Kim In-sook, CEO of Unity Korea, said, “This agreement is significant in that it involves the development of an education platform and talent cultivation that will lead the future of the metaverse.” She added, “Unity will support Cloukus, a leader in the domestic cloud management industry, with our technology and resources to build a high-quality education platform for future metaverse talent.”
Hong Seong-wan, CEO of Cloukus, stated, “The metaverse is in its early stages. Based on this joint business cooperation with Unity, we look forward to creating a new education platform that implements an LMS (Learning Management System) in the metaverse world.” He added, “Cloukus will do its best to develop innovative metaverse services completed on the cloud.”
Through this business agreement, Cloukus plans to expand its services from the existing enterprise-centered business to the public sector, offering differentiated metaverse platform services optimized for market needs, thereby solidifying its position as a leading cloud management company (MSP) in Korea.
