Jeonnam City and County Council Chairpersons Association Urges Construction of Jodo Bridge
Park Geum-rye, Jindo County Council Chair, "Special Government Measures Needed for Balanced Development of Island Areas"
[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] The Council of Chairpersons of City and County Councils in Jeonnam urged the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related departments on the 18th to change the route of National Road No. 18 and construct the Jodo Bridge to improve the quality of life for island residents.
The Council of Chairpersons of City and County Councils in Jeonnam held a meeting at the Damyang County Council on the same day and adopted the "Proposal for Route Change of National Road No. 18 and Construction of Jodo Bridge" proposed by Park Geum-rye, Chairperson of the Jindo County Council.
In the resolution, the Council stated that Jodo in Jindo County is heavily affected by maritime weather, causing passenger ship operations to be suspended for about 90 days a year, restricting residents' pursuit of happiness, and emphasized the need for special government measures due to difficulties in receiving welfare benefits such as transportation, medical care, and education.
They also highlighted that although 210,000 tourists visit annually, they experience inconveniences due to passenger ship cancellations, and that about 3,500 tons of agricultural and marine products such as seaweed, anchovies, mugwort, and laver are distributed only by ship, causing significant difficulties in economic activities.
