'Bezos ex-wife' Scott donates 530 billion KRW to Habitat

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon in the United States, donated $436 million (approximately 529 billion KRW) to Habitat, according to reports by The New York Times (NYT) and others on the 22nd (local time).
According to the report, Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat, stated in a press release that day, "Habitat works to unite humanity by providing comfortable homes to everyone regardless of nationality or race," and added, "Scott's large donation helps make that work possible."
Scott's donation, which will be distributed to Habitat and its 84 sister organizations in the United States, is especially intended to supply housing in communities predominantly inhabited by people of color. Habitat announced that $25 million of the donation will be used over the next 3 to 4 years to build more homes.

According to the U.S. economic magazine Forbes, Scott's net worth as of that day reached $49 billion. Scott divorced her ex-husband Bezos in 2019 following his infidelity and received 4% of Amazon's shares as a settlement. After declaring her intention to donate as much of her wealth as possible, Scott has donated billions of dollars to organizations focused on religion, gender, and economic equality.
