Jeonju City and Leading Medical Device Companies Collaborate to Establish a 'Bio Cluster'
Signed a Business Agreement with 6 Domestic Bio Medical Device Companies for Utilizing Jeonbuk National University Bio Facilities and Equipment and Technology Transfer
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 23rd that it has signed a 'Business Agreement for the Utilization of Jeonbuk National University Bio Facilities and Equipment and Technology Transfer' with Jeonbuk National University and six domestic bio medical device companies to foster the bio healthcare industry, a future growth engine.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Seung-su, Mayor of Jeonju; Kim Dong-won, President of Jeonbuk National University; Chae Soo-chan, Head of Jeonju Bio Healthcare Promotion Team; Kim Hak-yong, Director of Jeonbuk National University Mechano Bio Technology Convergence Research Center; Yoo Hyun-seung, CEO of CJ Bio Co., Ltd.; and representatives of six medical device companies.
The six companies participating in this agreement are CJ Bio Co., Ltd., Taewoong Medical Co., Ltd., TDM Co., Ltd., CV Bio, OSY Med, and S&G Biotech.
These companies mainly develop and produce interventional medical devices such as stents and catheters.
The medical device companies agreed to share bio facilities and equipment related to the bio healthcare cluster being established by the city and Jeonbuk National University and to focus on technology transfer for new product development.
In addition, they agreed to cooperate in joint research and development and technology exchange of medical devices, share their respective roles necessary for the creation of the bio healthcare cluster, including support for corporate spaces, and work together to discover cooperative projects for the sustainable establishment of the bio cluster.
The participating institutions and companies will actively utilize the Mechano Bio Technology Convergence Research Center at Jeonbuk National University, one of the core infrastructures of the bio healthcare cluster, to develop and evaluate the performance of interventional medical devices.
Jeonju City plans to encourage companies to establish research institutes or subsidiaries in Jeonju in the future and ultimately attract headquarters to make the Jeonju medical device cluster a key hub leading Korea's bio medical industry.
Mayor Kim Seung-su of Jeonju said, “While other cities have entered the bio healthcare industry, there are few cities with as solid a foundation as Jeonju, which has Jeonbuk National University, the Interventional Mechano Bio Technology Convergence Research Center, Jeonju Agricultural Life Material Research Institute, and the Rural Development Administration,” and emphasized, “With the conviction that the bio healthcare industry will be the nourishment for Jeonju’s 100-year future, we will build strong cooperation with Jeonbuk National University, the Bio Healthcare Promotion Team, and domestic medical device companies.”
