Hwang Hyun-taek, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, is officially declaring his candidacy for the position of Mayor of Seo-gu, Gwangju, in the nationwide local elections on June 1.

On the 23rd, Councilor Hwang held a press conference at the Gwangju City Council and declared his candidacy, saying, "I will definitely make Seo-gu a place where residents' lives are happier, the future is better, and it is a more livable district full of hopeful dreams."
He continued, "Seo-gu is at a time to leap forward as a safe and prosperous city where all residents thrive," adding, "Based on the diverse experiences I have accumulated so far, I am confident that I will devote myself wholeheartedly to developing Seo-gu into the best autonomous district in the country."
He also emphasized, "The district office chief must present better goals and communicate with residents to achieve those goals," and added, "Sometimes, one must foresee the future with political balance, be humble yet capable, and have the ability to envision the future."
Furthermore, he promised, "I will take the lead in supporting small business owners affected by COVID-19, actively promote the revitalization of private consumption and employment recovery support," and "I will boost the morale of national merit recipients and ensure that care for vulnerable groups is not neglected."
Along with this, he stated, "I will create an environment where we can work with conviction and enthusiasm, empathizing and moving forward together with the present and future, rather than being an authoritarian leader," and "Based on fundamentals and principles, I will carry out meticulous district administration so that Seo-gu residents can feel comfortable and hopeful."

He added, "I have eight years of experience in the Seo-gu Council and four years in the City Council, and I have been volunteering daily for traffic duties for 12 years," concluding, "I will leverage these strengths to work in harmony with the residents."
