Kim Jo-il, Head of Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, Inspects Renewable Energy Complex Site
Fire Prevention Measures for Energy Storage Systems and Inspection of Firefighting Facility Management
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Jo-il, head of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, conducted an on-site inspection of the renewable energy complex.
According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 22nd, Kim visited the Yeongam Renewable Energy Complex at 10 a.m. that day to inspect fire prevention measures for the Energy Storage System (ESS) and safety management of firefighting facilities within the complex.
The ESS, a device that stores energy, is gaining attention as a response to climate change and carbon neutrality, but it is difficult to extinguish fires and there is a high risk of significant property damage in case of fire.
Along with the inspection, through a meeting with related personnel, he listened to difficulties and suggestions, urging special attention to safety management such as maintaining the appropriate charging rate of the ESS (90%) and continuously checking whether the battery protection function is operating.
Head Kim said, “Due to the characteristics of ESS fires, a lot of firefighting resources and time are required for extinguishing, and the facility locations are also in places where firefighting teams find it difficult to arrive quickly, so please do your best in customized safety management.”
