Gwangju City to Launch Barrier-Free City Tour Exclusive Bus Service Starting from the 22nd
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 21st that it will operate one barrier-free city tour bus prioritizing accessibility for transportation-vulnerable groups starting from the 22nd.
The test ride ceremony held that day was attended by Jo Incheol, Deputy Mayor of Culture and Economy, Jo Seokho, Vice Chairman of the City Council, Kim Nayoon, Chairperson of the Education and Culture Committee, Jeong Jinsam, President of the Disabled Culture Association, and transportation-vulnerable tourists.
Transportation-vulnerable tourists refer to all people who have difficulty in tourism activities due to restrictions on mobility, facility use, or information access, including persons with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, those accompanied by infants and young children, and temporarily mobility-impaired individuals.
The Gwangju barrier-free city tour bus has a total of 20 seats, including 2 wheelchair-only seats.
By introducing digital guides including sign language and multiple languages, tourists visiting Gwangju can conveniently enjoy city sightseeing.
Until November 30, it will operate twice daily from Tuesday to Sunday on the route: Gwangju Songjeong Station → Airport Station → U-Square Terminal → Jungoe Park → Traditional Culture Center → National Asia Culture Center (ACC) → Jeonil Building → Yangrim History and Culture Village → Kimchi Town → Performance Maru (afternoon only) → U-Square Terminal → Airport Station → Gwangju Songjeong Station.
Kim Seongbae, Director of the City Tourism Promotion Division, said, “With the introduction of the barrier-free city tour bus, we expect the physical accessibility of transportation-vulnerable tourists traveling in Gwangju to improve. We will strive to include more diverse content and actively promote it so that it can become a representative tourism icon of Gwangju.”
Meanwhile, the Gwangju-Jeonnam linked tour bus operates three courses once daily every Saturday and Sunday: Course 1 Mudeungsan Geological Site Tour, Course 2 Bitgoeul Namdo Tour, and Course 3 Namdo Taste Journey Tour.

Reservations for city tour tickets can be made on the Gwangju City Tour website. Only 50% of the seats will be available for reservation until social distancing measures are lifted.
