On the 18th, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety inspected company A, a producer and seller of sweet potatoes on an online shopping mall, and confirmed that unsanitary products were distributed, requesting local governments to impose administrative measures.
The Ministry launched an investigation after a controversy arose on an online community claiming that "rotten sweet potatoes are being widely distributed at low prices on a famous shopping mall."
It was revealed that company A sold moldy or rotten sweet potatoes without undergoing a product selection process. All problematic products are currently being recalled. The Ministry stated, "We will continue to actively inspect unsanitary food handling practices" and "We will continue education and promotion targeting producers and related associations to ensure safe agricultural products are distributed."
