[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol emphasized on the 18th, as he announced the launch of the presidential transition committee, that the goal of national governance is 'national unity.'
On the same day, Yoon posted on his Facebook, stating, "National interest and the people will be the standards for all national tasks."
He said, "It is said that by looking at the early stages of a government, one can understand its final stages," adding, "I will listen carefully to the voices of the people and solve problems from the people's perspective." He continued, "We have gathered transition committee members from various fields such as scholars, bureaucrats, private experts, and lawmakers," and conveyed, "Although each has different areas of expertise and will work by division, I asked them to coordinate opinions and policies beyond the interests of individual ministries in a direction that benefits the entire nation."
President-elect Yoon said he is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation. Transition Committee Chairman Ahn Cheol-soo also serves as the head of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Committee within the transition team. He stated, "The COVID-19 Emergency Response Special Committee will carefully address not only prompt compensation for losses to small business owners and self-employed individuals but also issues related to quarantine and medical care," adding, "Furthermore, we will prepare to proactively respond to any future pandemic crises that may arise."
