Samsung Engineering announced that it held its regular shareholders' meeting and board of directors meeting at its headquarters in Sangil-dong on the 17th. At the 55th regular shareholders' meeting held that day, Professor Jeonghyun Choi from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Ewha Womans University was newly appointed as the first female outside director.
Professor Choi graduated from Ewha Womans University and earned her master's and doctoral degrees in environmental engineering from Princeton University in the United States. She currently serves as a member of the Ministry of Environment's Central Environmental Policy Committee and the Korea Forest Service's Forest Welfare Deliberation Committee. Her expertise in the environmental field and diverse administrative experience are expected to play a significant role in strengthening the company's ESG capabilities.
Additionally, Samsung Engineering decided at the board meeting to establish an ESG Committee under the board to enhance the execution of ESG management. The ESG Committee is expected to contribute to the company's sustainable growth through deliberation and resolution on the company's ESG strategies and implementation plans, shareholder value enhancement, and social responsibility matters.
The committee is composed entirely of four outside directors to ensure independence, and a member responsible for protecting shareholder rights has also been appointed within the committee to strive for enhancing shareholder value.
