Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station Utilizes Firefighting Drones in Mountain Rescue Operations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Northern Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 16th that it actively utilized fire drones in rescue operations at a mountain accident site.
Fire drones are advantageous for collecting information at disaster sites that are difficult for firefighters to access and for quickly identifying the location of victims in mountainous areas with wide search ranges.
According to the fire station, on the 15th at around 12:29 PM, a report was received that a hiker had fractured an arm while descending on the Mudol-gil hiking trail near Gakhwa Reservoir in Gakhwa-dong. A command vehicle, 119 rescue vehicle, ambulance, and 12 personnel were dispatched.
Upon arrival near the scene, the dispatched team conducted a search of the hiking trail and simultaneously used the fire drone to locate the victim. The victim was rescued 20 minutes after the report was received, at 12:49 PM, and the 119 ambulance transported the victim to a nearby hospital.
