Kazem, President of Korea GM, Files Lawsuit Against Ministry of Justice's Third Departure Ban
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Kaher Kazem, President of GM Korea (52), has filed a lawsuit in protest against the Ministry of Justice's third travel ban.
According to the legal community on the 15th, President Kazem filed a lawsuit at the Seoul Administrative Court on the same day, requesting the cancellation of the travel ban imposed by the Minister of Justice. The Ministry of Justice imposed the travel ban when Kazem was appointed on the 2nd as the Executive Vice President of SAIC-GM, a joint venture between GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in China.
Previously, President Kazem received his first travel ban from the Ministry of Justice in 2020 during an investigation into illegal dispatch, and after the ban period was extended, he filed a lawsuit and won.
The Ministry of Justice expressed its intention to appeal and imposed the travel ban again but later withdrew the appeal. Furthermore, when President Kazem was appointed effective June 1, the Ministry of Justice issued the third travel ban.

President Kazem is currently undergoing a first trial after being indicted in July 2020 on charges of violating the Act on the Protection of Dispatched Workers. He is accused of illegally dispatching 1,719 workers from 24 subcontractors at GM Korea's Incheon Bupyeong, Gyeongnam Changwon, and Jeonbuk Gunsan plants from September 1, 2017, to December 31, 2020.
