Earlier, on the night of the 4th during his candidacy, President-elect Yoon visited the Uljin National Sports Center to console the disaster victims. During this visit, he went to Geomseong-ri, where the damage was severe, received a report on the damage situation, and then moved to the village hall of Bugu 3-ri, where the disaster victims were temporarily residing. He listened to the victims' damage situations and difficulties and offered words of consolation.
Jeon Chang-geol, Uljin-gun governor, who accompanied the site visit, requested that the government consider supporting construction costs related to the reconstruction of disaster victims' houses. He also strongly demanded compensation for agricultural and livestock farms and government disaster relief funds for pine mushroom (song-i) farms that were not included in the compensation list.
This wildfire has been classified as a social disaster, and according to guidelines, there is no support related to housing restoration costs for disaster victims. In the case of total housing destruction, residents can receive 16 million KRW for housing costs and up to 88.4 million KRW in restoration funds as loans, but since the repayment condition is based on a 20-year term and most disaster victims are elderly, realistically, it is difficult for them to apply.
Regarding pine mushroom (song-i) damage, there have been 305 reported farms so far. Considering that the number of reports is expected to increase, the damage is severe, but there are no related regulations on compensation for forest products damage, so there are no support measures.
President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol said, “We will strive to ensure that the affected residents receive fair compensation and do our best so that there is no hindrance to housing restoration.”
