[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation announced on the 15th that they will select 30 new recipients for the Dream Scholarship, which supports tuition and living expenses necessary for studying abroad for low-income high school students with excellent academic performance.
Eligibility requires students to be recipients of basic living subsidies or belong to the next-lowest income bracket, be in the 2nd or 3rd year of high school, have excellent academic records, and wish to study abroad at overseas universities. Fifteen students each from the 2nd and 3rd years of high school will be selected as new scholarship recipients, including up to five students from industry-demand customized high schools and specialized high schools.
The application period is until 6 p.m. on April 7, and details on eligibility and application methods can be found on the Korea Student Aid Foundation website. Up to 30 new scholarship recipients will be selected through document screening and interviews.
Students can apply online directly, and to expand opportunities for diverse and outstanding students, the selection system has been improved by establishing recognition criteria for international subject grades and foreign language proficiency evaluation standards.
The Dream Scholarship program has supported 133 scholarship recipients since 2012 to cultivate global talents, with 81 students advancing to seven countries worldwide.
Selected 2nd and 3rd year high school scholarship recipients will receive a monthly study encouragement allowance of 500,000 to 700,000 KRW, along with personalized one-on-one mentoring, overseas safety education from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and study abroad briefings in cooperation with embassies. Customized study abroad counseling will be provided to help students enter prestigious overseas universities.
For students studying abroad, up to $60,000 annually will be provided for tuition and living expenses, with additional incentives for those with excellent academic performance.
