Former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Lee Ju-young has announced his candidacy for the 38th Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do in the nationwide local elections this June.

Former Minister Lee has served as Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province, Chairman of the Party Policy Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
He registered as a preliminary candidate for the People Power Party's Gyeongsangnam-do governor in the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections with the Gyeongnam Provincial Election Commission and held a press conference in front of the provincial government main building.
In his declaration of candidacy, former Minister Lee expressed his determination by presenting the "Gyeongnam Development 315" plan.
“I plan to conceive 6 to 7 large-scale projects and attract investment to create jobs and sources of income,” he said, adding, “I will open an era of Gyeongnam with a population of 5 million, ranking third nationwide in personal income, and attracting 100 billion dollars in investment.”
