County Provides Military Supplies Worth 2 Billion KRW to Ukraine
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The Ministry of National Defense has decided to support Ukraine with non-weapon system military supplies. The total consists of about 20 items, amounting to approximately 1 billion KRW.
On the 15th, Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Bu Seung-chan stated, "We have currently decided on the related support items and are discussing specific plans, including transportation and ways to deliver these supplies."
Ukraine requested support for weapon systems such as rifles and anti-tank missiles. However, the support items include non-weapon system military supplies such as ballistic helmets, tents, blankets, artillery covers, combat rations, as well as medical supplies like personal first aid kits and medicines.
Since Russia's invasion, Ukraine has sent official letters requesting military and humanitarian aid from various countries, including South Korea.
It is known that the requested items included weapon systems such as rifles and anti-tank missiles in addition to non-combat supplies, but the government has concluded that providing lethal weapons is realistically difficult.
Meanwhile, regarding concerns that recent sanctions against Russia might disrupt the supply of Russian-made weapon parts for the South Korean military, spokesperson Bu responded, "As of now, the Russian-made weapon systems possessed by the military are operable with the repair parts currently secured."
