From Job Creation to Talent Development... Active Social Contributions of the Korea Securities Depository
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Myunghwan] Korea Securities Depository (KSD) is actively engaged in various contribution activities such as job creation, talent development, and support.
According to KSD's 'Social Value Related Performance' on the 16th, KSD is focusing on realizing diverse social values including ▲supporting jobs for vulnerable groups ▲nurturing local talent ▲revitalizing the social economy ▲supporting local residents ▲creating school meditation forests.
First, KSD is concentrating on creating jobs for vulnerable groups within the community such as the elderly, low-income individuals, and women. In cooperation with the Korea Senior Citizens Development Institute, KSD provides short-term jobs such as museum docent support projects targeting seniors in the Busan area. For low-income groups, KSD collaborates with the Busan branch of the Korea Regional Self-Support Center Association to offer short-term jobs supporting residents participating in self-support programs by visiting homes with children in vulnerable housing conditions to assist with cleaning and laundry. For middle-aged women in Busan, KSD also provides short-term jobs related to daily quarantine tasks in partnership with the Women's Human Resources Development Center. Thanks to KSD's support, 147 jobs for vulnerable groups in the Busan area have been created over the past three years.
Various sponsorships for local residents are also actively carried out. During holidays, KSD supported shopping events by providing Onnuri gift certificates and shopping carts to elderly people in vulnerable groups. KSD also sponsored the Korea Together Sale and Busan Brand Festa to expand sales channels for small business owners. For low-income children and adolescents, KSD provided tickets to art exhibitions. Additionally, KSD completed projects such as ▲opening the Securities Museum ▲installing safety infrastructure including CCTV.
KSD has also established funds to revitalize the local economy. Nine public institutions based in Busan, including KSD, jointly established the 'Busan Social Economy Support Fund (BEF).' BEF has accumulated 4 billion KRW over the past four years, including KSD's contribution of 490 million KRW. They have provided financial support and management consulting to social economy enterprises located in Busan, resulting in increased employment and sales figures last year. From 2018 to last year, a total of 249 companies received BEF support such as financial aid, crowdfunding, and management consulting.
