[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Junhyung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 15th that it held the launching ceremony of the 'Chemical Industry Forum' at the Koreana Hotel in Seoul, with about 100 participants from industry, academia, research, and government.
The goal of the Chemical Industry Forum is to establish the '2022 Chemical Industry Development Plan.' It is composed of five divisions: petrochemicals, plastics, fine chemicals, supply chain, and infrastructure, and will operate for three months.
Specifically, the petrochemical division will discuss raw material and fuel substitution and process transformation for carbon reduction. The plastics division will prepare support measures for high value-added plastics companies, introduction of automation, and activation of biodegradable plastics. The fine chemicals division plans to explore support measures for core materials in front industries such as semiconductors, displays, and future vehicles, which have a high dependence on advanced countries. The supply chain and infrastructure division will focus on discussing supply chain stabilization measures and regulatory improvement tasks.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to compile the issues and tasks proposed by the Chemical Industry Forum and announce the chemical industry development plan within the first half of this year.
