One in Seven People Infected with COVID-19... Cumulative Cases Surpass 7 Million
Over 1 Million Increase in Just Three Days After Surpassing 6 Million... Omicron Wave Accelerates
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 7 million. This means that one in every seven people in the country has contracted COVID-19.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency as of midnight on the 15th, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases stands at 7,228,550. This marks an increase of over 1 million cases in just three days since surpassing 6 million on the 12th.
The cumulative number of cases is rising rapidly. It exceeded 1 million on February 6, 2 million on the 21st, 3 million on the 28th, and surpassed 4 million on the 5th of this month. The time taken to increase by 1 million cases has shortened from 15 days → 7 days → 5 days → 7 days → 3 days.
If the daily new cases continue at the 300,000 level as currently trending, the cumulative cases could exceed 8 million within three days, as it did this time. From the 13th to the 15th, the number of new cases was 350,188, 309,790, and 362,338 respectively, all above 300,000.

Experts and health authorities consider the peak of the Omicron wave to be at a daily average of 370,000 to 400,000 new cases. If this prediction holds true, the cumulative number of cases could surpass 10 million around the 23rd.
