[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] With about three months remaining until the local elections on June 1, Shin Hong-seop, an independent candidate for mayor of Gwangyang, announced his campaign pledge.
Candidate Shin Hong-seop stated, “To create a city where mothers raising children in Gwangyang are happy, I will provide a ‘Mom Allowance.’”
The Mom Allowance is a nationwide first pledge. Although various allowances such as child-rearing allowances, senior citizen allowances, and youth support have existed, there has been no allowance directly supporting mothers raising children.
Gwangyang is the youngest city in Jeollanam-do, with active support being provided.
To further promote Gwangyang as a city ideal for raising children, candidate Shin announced the Mom Allowance as his number one pledge.
Shin Hong-seop said, “Beyond being a city good for raising children, mothers raising children must be happy for children and happy families to be created. I believe the nationwide first Mom Allowance will also contribute to overcoming the low birthrate phenomenon in Gwangyang, which has a large young population.”
He added, “During these difficult times due to COVID-19, the Mom Allowance is one of the optimal welfare policies for mothers dedicated to raising children.”
Details about the Mom Allowance will be announced through the campaign pledge booklet.
Candidate Shin Hong-seop said, “The Mom Allowance is for working moms who are engaged in full-time childcare. As the first Mom Allowance announced nationwide, I hope for much interest from citizens. Detailed information such as the scale of support, eligibility, and total budget will be thoroughly explained in the pledge booklet.”
