[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) announced that it actively practiced the corporate citizenship management philosophy by carrying out environmental cleanup activities across the region to welcome spring.
The Friends Volunteer Group (Leader Choi Chang-rok) gathered about 60 Gwangyang Steelworks employees and their families on the 12th to conduct natural environment preservation activities at Su-eocheon in Jinsang-myeon.
In particular, due to an extreme drought not seen in 50 years, they removed household waste and piles of wood from the exposed riverbed of Su-eocheon and thoroughly cleaned fallen leaves accumulated in Baekhak Park, sweating over large-scale environmental maintenance to nurture the river.
Park Hyun-wook, Manager of the Production Technology Department at Gwangyang Steelworks who participated in the volunteer work that day, said, “I was shocked to see the exposed riverbed of Su-eocheon due to the drought,” adding, “I hope that our environmental cleanup efforts will help clear water flow in Su-eocheon and contribute to making Gwangyang a clean area.”
On the same day, the QSS Sonagi Volunteer Group (Leader Yoo Han-sung) visited Madong Reservoir Ecological Park and carried out spring environmental cleanup activities so that local residents could use the park comfortably with the warming weather.
The QSS Sonagi Volunteer Group, consisting of 32 Gwangyang Steelworks employees and their families, divided into three teams to collect various trash and waste such as discarded beverage cans, vinyl, and cigarette packs along the Goblin Road, ecological park walking trails, and the reservoir outskirts, contributing to creating a comfortable resting place for local residents.
Yoo Han-sung, Manager who participated in the volunteer work, said, “While conducting environmental cleanup activities around Madong Reservoir Ecological Park, I realized there is a lot of indiscriminately discarded trash along the roads,” adding, “Based on the members’ opinions, we plan to carry out environmental cleanup activities in the Jung-dong area next week.”
