Jeju Coast Guard Holds 'Foreign Crime Prevention Meeting'
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Maritime Police announced on the 14th that they will conduct a visiting 'Foreigners Crime Prevention Meeting' targeting foreign workers and employers engaged in marine and fisheries work until the 25th.
This meeting was organized to prevent social issues such as difficulties in employing foreign seafarers due to COVID-19 and unauthorized departure and illegal employment caused by human rights violations of foreign workers, targeting foreign workers and employers engaged in marine and fisheries industries.
The Jeju Maritime Police recently shared cases of human rights violations and illegal activities involving foreigners, discussed efficient management and improvement plans for foreign seafarers, and simultaneously investigated the working conditions of foreign seafarers to strengthen the protection of their human rights.
They also plan to actively promote reporting so that foreign workers in marine and fisheries sectors can live stable lives in the Jeju area and can report promptly in case of human rights violations such as unfair assault, confinement, and wage exploitation.
A Jeju Maritime Police official said, "During the difficult period of securing foreign seafarers due to COVID-19, we ask for the active interest and participation of marine and fisheries workers to prevent social problems caused by human rights violations against foreign workers," and added, "Please actively report if any human rights violations occur."
