Self-Directed Data Management... LG Uplus Launches 'U+Z Plan Phone' Exclusively for Teenagers
Smartphone 'U+Z Plan Phone' Release
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] LG Uplus announced on the 14th that it has launched a dedicated smartphone, the 'U+Z Plan Phone,' which allows middle and high school student customers to control their own data usage.
Unlike previous phones targeting teenagers that were mainly released by budget phone operators focusing on limiting data usage, the U+Z Plan Phone is a product that strengthens self-management functions set by the teenagers themselves. It is based on the white model of Samsung's 'Galaxy Z Flip3' released last year.
Teenagers can use the pre-installed 'ZPlan' app on the device to select and use one of four modes. They can choose from 'Basic Home Mode,' which provides a general usage environment; 'Container Mode,' which enhances privacy protection; 'Custom Mode,' which allows editing of desired screens and apps; or 'Feature Phone Mode,' which restricts data usage.
Normally, users can use data in Basic Home Mode to attend online lectures, and during exam periods, they can switch to Feature Phone Mode to limit data usage and focus on studying. Learning management features such as study schedules, today's to-do list, award history records, presentation and assignment schedules, mock exam time measurement, mock exam score records, and ranking grade graph records are also available.
The device's retail price is 1,319,890 KRW, and considering the maximum official subsidy of 600,000 KRW, the actual purchase price is 719,890 KRW. Teen customers can use the '5G Lite Youth' plan for 45,000 KRW per month, which provides 8GB of data (with speeds up to 1Mbps after data depletion).
Along with the launch of the U+Z Plan Phone, LG Uplus is conducting various events. First, considering teenagers' high interest in environmental protection, LG Uplus plans to donate a portion of the sales proceeds from the U+Z Plan Phone to the Climate Change Center as a fund for environmental protection activities for future generations. Customers who activate the U+Z Plan Phone by the 19th will also receive a Culture Cash mobile gifticon worth 20,000 KRW.
There is also an event where customers visiting nationwide offline direct stores receive gifts. A social network service (SNS) event targeting teenagers will be held as well. Teenagers who experience the Z Plan Phone at stores and upload photos to SNS by the 19th will receive cultural gift certificates. Additionally, when purchasing the U+Z Plan Phone from LG Uplus's official online mall 'U Shop,' benefits such as ▲ 5,000 KRW monthly shopping coupon packs (for 24 months) usable on Naver Pay, Yogiyo, etc., and ▲ an additional 15% discount on the device's official subsidy are provided.
