[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A robbery occurred at a convenience store in Seoul where a female owner was guarding the store alone during the early morning hours, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
The Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced on the 13th that they are tracking a male suspect who committed a robbery at a convenience store in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, around 5:35 a.m. According to the police, the convenience store owner, who was working alone at the time, caught the man as he tried to leave without paying after taking a bottle of soju from the refrigerator. The man reportedly broke the soju bottle and threatened the victim, then took 140,000 won from the cash box. The suspect fled immediately after the crime by taking a taxi.
Fortunately, the convenience store owner did not suffer any physical injuries other than the loss of cash. The police revealed that the convenience store’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) was not functioning, so they are identifying the suspect’s appearance and tracking his movements using black box footage from nearby vehicles. A police official stated, “We are currently pursuing the suspect.”
