"Failed to Understand Customer's Feelings" Apology Repeated
Two Methods for Software Update and Settings
Free Repair Service Provided in Case of Issues
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Regarding the controversy over the Game Optimization Service (GOS) of the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung Electronics has repeatedly apologized to users and conducted a software update. Attention is focused on whether the GOS controversy will be resolved.
"We failed to understand customers' feelings" Apologizes again
Samsung Electronics posted an apology on the official user community Samsung Members the day before, stating, "We once again apologize for not properly understanding the customers' feelings from the beginning." They added, "Respecting customers' demands regarding GOS, we have lifted the initial performance restrictions on high-spec games and improved the ability to use the central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) to their maximum capacity." They also explained, "We added a Game Performance Management mode to further enhance product performance." Samsung Electronics had previously apologized for the controversy and announced plans to resolve the issue through a software update on the 4th. Samsung Electronics Service also launched a Q&A webpage about GOS on the 9th.
No Tae-moon, President of Samsung Electronics MX Division, also apologized to employees on the 10th. During an internal town hall meeting with staff, President No explained the GOS-related issues and apologized, saying, "There was a lack of communication with employees regarding the controversy, and we will strengthen communication going forward." It is expected that GOS-related matters will also be mentioned at the Samsung Electronics shareholders' meeting scheduled for the 16th.
Software update and how to set it
Samsung Electronics conducted a software (SW) update on the afternoon of the 10th. The update included lifting the initial performance restrictions on the CPU and GPU when running games and separately providing a "Game Performance Management mode" within the Game Booster. Additionally, the blocking of external apps that bypass GOS off was also lifted.
There are two ways to set it. After launching a game, enter the Game Booster settings, then go to Game Booster Settings → Labs → turn on (ON) the Game Performance Management menu. Alternatively, from the Game Launcher, enter Game Booster settings by launching Game Launcher → bottom right options menu → enter Game Booster → Labs → turn on the Game Performance Management menu. Along with this, the blocking of apps that bypass GOS off was also lifted.
GOS is a function that automatically activates when an app recognized as a game runs, limiting the performance of the app processor and GPU. Unlike previous models, this function was blocked from being bypassed, which drew criticism from users. Some buyers have filed complaints with the Fair Trade Commission for violations of the Act on Labeling and Advertising and have also appointed legal representatives to prepare for a class-action lawsuit.
Providing services from the user's perspective
Samsung Electronics stated, "We will also proceed with software upgrades for existing smartphones and tablets as soon as possible," emphasizing, "We will listen more carefully to our customers' valuable voices and do our best to provide the best products and services."
Regarding safety issues, the temperature control algorithm has been optimized to ensure safety. Samsung Electronics explained, "Even if device policies are changed, excessive heat prevention functions of the device will continue to be applied to ensure user safety."

Samsung Electronics said, "The performance-first option is also a function provided by our company, and if there is an abnormality in the device and it is within the warranty period, free service can be received."
