Kabi Applies AI Safe Driving Solution to Gwangju Disabled Taxi Service... "Expecting Accident Reduction"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Insurtech solution startup Kavi announced on the 11th that it has signed a contract to supply an AI video recognition engine-based 'Safe Driving Solution' to Gwangju Urban Management Corporation for transportation support vehicles for the mobility-impaired (disabled call taxis).
The contract period is four years, and the safe driving solution collects driver-specific driving habit data each time the vehicle is operated. It evaluates driving habits by checking factors such as maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, aggressive lane cutting, speeding on curves, and the number of signal violations.
This allows for an objective understanding of whether drivers usually practice safe driving. For drivers with poor driving habits who are at risk of accidents, customized educational data is provided to encourage improvement.
A Kavi official explained, "Through data experiments with other public institutions and taxi platform companies, drivers who experienced the AI safe driving solution reduced the frequency of sudden acceleration, sudden braking, and lane departure by approximately 42% and 20%, respectively, compared to before."
Disabled call taxis are public transportation means established to guarantee the mobility rights of disabled people, and safe driving is especially emphasized since passengers are seated in wheelchairs.
Park Nam-su, president of Gwangju Urban Management Corporation, said, "The average daily number of users of Gwangju City's disabled call taxis reaches about 250," adding, "We hope that through cooperation with Kavi, disabled call taxis will establish themselves as even safer means of transportation."
Lee Eun-su, CEO of Kavi, said, "We expect that drivers' safe driving habits will improve and safety accidents will decrease through the Kavi solution," and added, "We are continuing discussions to supply the safe driving solution to other local government agencies as well."
Meanwhile, Kavi recently completed a six-month Proof of Concept (PoC) period with a major domestic non-life insurance company and is discussing cooperation to develop a BBI (Behavior-Based Insurance) product that calculates insurance premiums based solely on driving habits rather than age or gender.
