[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Jeong-wan] Jo Eun-hee, former Seocho District Mayor who was elected in the Seocho-gap by-election in Seoul, argued that the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) should be elevated to a deputy prime minister level. In response, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, requested, "Please do not lightly criticize or point out the presidential election pledges."
On the 10th, Jo appeared on CBS Radio's 'Hanpanseungbu' and said, "I think the current MOGEF has become the ruling party's family ministry," adding, "The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family should be elevated to a deputy prime minister level to properly fulfill its role."
He said, "During the former Mayor Park Won-soon's case, the victims were called victims and complainants, but when women like Representative Yoon Mi-hyang, former Chungnam Governor Ahn Hee-jung, and former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don needed help, the ministry sided with the ruling party instead of the victims."
He continued, "However, women still need help, and issues such as women's safety, low birth rates, and family problems need to be addressed by some department. Since we are facing a population cliff, this should be a presidential project with a control tower," he emphasized.
Regarding criticism that President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's gender policies had problems, Jo said, "I also think so," and added, "In my opinion, is it really necessary to divide the 20s generation into 20-something men (Idaenam) and 20-something women (Idaenyeo)?"
In response to these claims, on the 11th, Lee shared related articles on his Facebook, stating, "We are no longer the opposition party," and criticized, "Now we have the responsibility to actively support President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's policies and bring stability to state administration."
He added, "It doesn't matter if party members criticize Lee Jun-seok or freely evaluate the election, but do not directly criticize the president-elect's pledges," adding, "That is respect for voters immediately after the election."
