[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] A rough plan for the composition of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's transition committee has emerged. The transition committee will be organized into a total of seven divisions, with special committees such as the National Integration Special Committee and the COVID-19 Emergency Response Task Force planned.
On the 11th, Chief Secretary Jang met with reporters in front of the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, stating, "We are trying to announce the transition committee chairperson and vice-chairperson sooner," and added, "We plan to finalize the appointments of the chairperson and vice-chairperson by the weekend and will sequentially announce them next week after consulting with the chairperson."
He explained the reason for advancing the formation of the transition committee, saying, "The public is very curious, and the transition committee needs to be launched quickly and stably so that the government can form a new cabinet or presidential office."
Chief Secretary Jang outlined the general framework for the transition committee's organizational structure. The committee will consist of seven divisions: ▲Planning and Coordination ▲Foreign Affairs and Security ▲Political, Judicial, and Administrative Affairs ▲Economy 1 (Macroeconomics, Finance) ▲Economy 2 (Industry, Employment) ▲Science, Technology, and Education ▲Social Welfare and Culture.
Regarding special committees, he revealed plans to include the 'National Integration Special Committee' directly under the president-elect, the 'COVID-19 Emergency Response Task Force,' and the 'Blue House Reform Task Force.' He said, "The National Integration Special Committee will be established directly under the president-elect. The COVID-19 Emergency Response Task Force will include budget, industry, education, and health sectors, and it will create a blueprint for how our government will respond to COVID-19 emergencies and handle compensation for losses."
He also stated, "The Blue House Reform Task Force will have a team leader working practically, focusing on how to start with the presidential office and how to organize the Blue House. This task force is tentatively confirmed, while the special committee part will be further considered." He added, "We will give more thought to the special committee part."
He also disclosed the location for the transition committee. He said, "President-elect Yoon wants to work closely with the transition committee," and added, "We have narrowed down the possible locations to the Financial Supervisory Service Training Institute in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, and the Korea Financial Training Institute in Samcheong-dong, which the president-elect and the transition committee can share." The two training institutes are about a five-minute drive apart.
He continued, "Administrative Officer Seo Il-jun and the Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will make the final decision," and explained, "The transition committee plans to move in next week."
Regarding the timing of the transition committee's signboard ceremony, he said, "The Park Geun-hye administration's transition committee took about two weeks, but we plan to expedite it."
