[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has launched support for knee artificial joint surgery costs to help vulnerable elderly people who cannot receive timely surgery due to the burden of medical expenses.
The "Knee Artificial Joint Surgery Cost Support Project," promoted in cooperation with the Elderly Medical Sharing Foundation and the district, targets elderly people aged 60 or older who are in the lower-income bracket, basic livelihood security recipients, medical aid types 1 and 2 recipients, and single-parent families.
Support is provided up to 1.2 million KRW per one knee, and up to 2.4 million KRW for both knees, covering examination fees, consultation fees, and surgery costs.
Support is not available for surgeries performed before the application, and surgery must be done within three months after final notification as an eligible recipient.
Residents wishing to apply can visit their local community service center or the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center's Health Management Division with ▲ a diagnosis or medical opinion issued within one month from the application date ▲ and documents proving eligibility such as a basic livelihood security recipient certificate. However, the project may close early if the budget is exhausted.
Last year, a total of 16 elderly people in Gwangjin-gu received knee artificial joint surgery through this project.
