Mokpo Coast Guard Issues 'Attention' Alert Over Ongoing and Repeated Coastal Safety Accidents During Farming Season
High Incidence of Safety Accidents Such as Falls and Isolation Due to Fog During Agricultural Work from March to July
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Mokpo Maritime Police Station announced on the 8th that it has issued the 'Interest' level of the Safety Accident Risk Forecast System from the 7th to July 31 (147 days) to prevent coastal safety accidents caused by fog.
The Safety Accident Risk Forecast System is a system that, according to the Coastal Accident Prevention Act, informs the public in advance to prevent accidents by dividing the risk into 'Interest', 'Advisory', and 'Warning' levels when there is a concern or occurrence of continuous or repetitive safety accidents due to weather deterioration or natural disasters during specific periods.
From March to July, dense fog increases the possibility of safety accidents such as falls and slips at breakwaters and piers, and accidents of being trapped in mudflats or rocky shores often occur due to unawareness of tide times.
Last year, during the period when the coastal accident risk forecast system was issued in the farming season, 18 safety accidents such as falls and entrapments occurred along the coast.
The Maritime Police plans to strengthen patrols focusing on vulnerable areas such as harbors and rocky shores during the risk forecast period and provide marine safety information along with safety guidance using police substation electronic signboards, banners, and broadcasting devices.
