Proposal to Postpone the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree by One Year
Final Decision on Postponement to Be Made at April Board Meeting
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree Organizing Committee announced on the 7th that it plans to propose postponing the event scheduled for August next year by one year.
The 2023 Saemangeum World Jamboree Organizing Committee held a general meeting of members on the 3rd and 4th, and resolved to propose to the World Organization of the Scout Movement to delay the timing of the events by one year each: the Pre-Jamboree to August 2023 and the World Jamboree to August 2024.
The committee members agreed to propose a one-year postponement due to increased uncertainty caused by the recent spread of the Omicron variant and the worsening COVID-19 situation, which would restrict the participation of about 50,000 youths and inevitably shrink program activities.
The Pre-Jamboree, originally scheduled for August 2-7 this year, will be postponed to August 1-6, 2023, and the World Jamboree, scheduled for August 1-12 next year, will be postponed to August 1-12, 2024.
The decision on whether to postpone the World Jamboree will be made at the World Organization of the Scout Movement board meeting held in April. The board consists of member countries from 172 nations worldwide.
