Gwangju University Supports Early Startup Growth... Provides Customized Programs and More
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Gwangju University has rolled up its sleeves to help early-stage startup companies successfully operate their businesses.
Gwangju University is recruiting participating companies for the ‘2022 Early Startup Package’ until the 24th, providing up to 100 million KRW in commercialization funds to early-stage startups with promising items.
Selected as the best institution for three consecutive years in the Early Startup Package project hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development, Gwangju University plans to select and support companies in a total of 23 fields (19 general and 4 green).
Through the Early Startup Package, Gwangju University plans to provide up to approximately 100 million KRW in commercialization funds to each selected early-stage startup.
Additionally, it will implement customized programs such as startup spaces, investment linkage, domestic and international market development, consulting, startup clubs, and entrepreneurship education to support growth.
The recruitment target is individual and corporate startups within three years as of the announcement date. Applications can be submitted through the K-Startup website, and detailed information can be found in the announcements on the Gwangju University Startup Support Group’s startup portal.
Since being selected as the lead institution for the Startup Leading University Development Project in 2017 and transitioning to the Early Startup Package in 2019, Gwangju University has been conducting the project for six consecutive years, supporting the discovery of early-stage startups in the Honam region and entrepreneurship education programs within the university.

Choi Wan-seok, head of the Gwangju University Startup Support Group, said, “Based on excellent startup infrastructure and various programs, we will actively cooperate and support the fostering of startup companies and the creation of a startup ecosystem to revitalize the regional startup culture.” He added, “We have prepared several programs for early-stage startups this year as well, so we hope for much interest and participation.”
