Minister Lim Hye-sook of the Ministry of Science and ICT Tests Positive for COVID-19 on Return from MWC
Confirmed Positive in Airport PCR Test
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Im Hye-sook, Minister of Science and ICT (MSIT), tested positive for COVID-19 while returning from the mobile and IT exhibition 'Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022' held in Barcelona, Spain, until the 3rd of this month.
According to the MSIT on the 7th, Minister Im underwent a COVID-19 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test after arriving at Incheon International Airport on the 3rd of this month, and was confirmed positive the following day, the 4th.
Minister Im plans to self-isolate at home until the 10th of this month and then return to work normally.
An MSIT official said, "It seems her immunity dropped after pushing through the schedule while visiting various booths at the MWC site," adding, "She will be able to return to work normally after the quarantine period ends."

During this MWC period, Minister Im visited booths of 21 domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, mid-sized companies, and startups, including Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus. On the 1st of this month (local time), she also delivered a keynote speech titled 'B5G (Beyond 5G) and 6G: Towards the Era of Digital Exploration.'
