The Democratic Party's Gwangju campaign headquarters announced on the 6th that they will launch a "24-hour election campaign that never turns off the lights."
Local National Assembly members, city and district councilors, party officials, and campaign workers will all engage in a 72-hour "emergency action" to spread the heated early voting enthusiasm of Gwangju nationwide with full force.
Through emergency duty, they will increase communication time with citizens, and National Assembly members will visit every corner of their constituencies to meet residents. They will also continue to encourage voting and appeal for support to expatriates and acquaintances across the country.
Song Gap-seok, co-chairman of the Gwangju campaign headquarters (Chairman of the Gwangju City Party), stated, "Ahead of the 20th presidential election, Honam has indeed rewritten history." He added, "In the early voting conducted over the past two days, Gwangju showed a turnout rate of 48.27%, the third highest nationwide, and Jeonnam and Jeonbuk also showed high turnout rates. Once again, Honam has clearly proven itself as a stronghold of democracy."
He continued, "This is a new record that has updated the previous early voting turnout records, and it is likely that the earnest wish of Gwangju citizens to prevent a prosecutorial republic and a collusive republic led to this high early voting turnout," explaining, "To the citizens of Gwangju who participated in early voting, now is the time to make calls."
Furthermore, he urged, "Please greet your relatives and acquaintances across the country and appeal to them to cast their precious votes," emphasizing, "A single phone call from citizens can protect democracy in the Republic of Korea."
He explained, "Candidate Lee Jae-myung said he would humbly accept the great will of the sovereign people and become a faithful worker and capable representative," adding, "He asked not to forget the earnestness and urgency felt in 2002 and to fervently dream of victory."
