Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Requests Samsung to Suspend Business in Russia
Demand to Halt Supply and Service of Samsung Products
Apple Has Already Stopped... Elon Musk Also Supports Ukraine
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine has requested Samsung to suspend its business operations in Russia. This is a call for Samsung to join Apple, which has already stopped selling products in Russia.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Digital Transformation, tagged Samsung's official account on Twitter on the 4th (local time), urging them to "join the steps for world peace," stating, "As long as Russian tanks and missiles are bombing hospitals and kindergartens in Ukraine, Samsung's excellent products should not be used in Russia."

Along with this, he attached a letter he sent the previous day to Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics. In the letter, Fedorov demanded the suspension of supply of Samsung's products and services, including blocking access to Samsung Pay, Samsung Galaxy Store, and Samsung Shop. Samsung Electronics holds a 30% share of the Russian smartphone market, ranking first last year.
This is not the first time Vice Prime Minister Fedorov has made such demands to major global tech companies. On the same day, he also requested Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, to suspend services in Russia. At 31 years old, the youngest among Ukrainian ministers, he previously sought help from Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. Following this, Apple stopped selling products in Russia. Musk agreed to provide Ukraine with the satellite internet service 'Starlink.' When online payment service PayPal announced it would suspend services in Russia on the same day, Fedorov responded on Twitter, "Thank you for your support."
