Early Voting in Busan, Campaign Tour Extends to Gyeongbuk
Targeting Strongholds 5 Days Before Presidential Election
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi, Busan=Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Five days before the presidential election, Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, who embarked on a nationwide campaign lasting six days without overnight stays, visited the Busan and Gyeongbuk regions on the second day, appealing for support by asking voters to "judge through voting." The strategy is to solidify support in the conservative strongholds of PK (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam) and TK (Daegu, Gyeongbuk). Especially during this campaign, he emphasized that it was exactly one year since he stepped down as Prosecutor General, reaffirming his resolute determination.
After casting his vote at the early voting station in Nam-gu Office, Busan on the 4th, Candidate Yoon visited the UN Memorial Park to pay respects. Speaking to reporters after the visit, he said, "Since my schedule was in Busan, I voted here," adding, "The Nam-gu Office voting station is in the neighborhood where I lived about 20 years ago when I worked in Busan, so it brings back memories."
He continued, "Today marks exactly one year since I resigned as Prosecutor General," and said, "On that day, as I left the main gate of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, I said that wherever I am, I will do my best to protect this country's liberal democracy and its people." Regarding his visit to the UN Memorial Park, he emphasized that it was to reflect on the 'spirit of liberal democracy' he has upheld since announcing his candidacy.
During his campaign in Saha-gu, Busan, Candidate Yoon said, "Early voting starts today. We have now reached the final stretch of the presidential election marathon," adding, "If this were a marathon, we have entered the stadium." He reiterated his resignation as Prosecutor General, criticizing the current administration by saying, "I judged that continuing to serve in public office under a corrupt, incompetent, and disrespectful regime that looks down on the people was meaningless, so I came out." He appealed for support, saying, "It is the citizens who have brought me to this position," and urged, "Citizens under the Democratic Party administration, this time you must definitely replace them."
He also promised to make Busan "Asia's best and one of the world's leading magnificent maritime cities," pledging the establishment of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) Mega City, construction of the Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX), hosting the 2030 World Expo, and relocating the Korea Development Bank to Busan.
