US Unemployment Claims at 220,000... Lowest This Year So Far

According to the U.S. Department of Labor on the 3rd (local time), the number of new unemployment benefit claims last week (February 20-26) was 215,000, down 18,000 from the previous week. This is the lowest level this year and also below the market forecast (225,000).

The number of continuing unemployment benefit claims, which are filed for at least two weeks, increased by 2,000 to 1,480,000. Continuing claims are counted based on data from two weeks prior.
