In an interview with BBS Radio on the same day, Lee said, "I understand that the unification was achieved because of a sudden request from Ahn Cheol-soo, the candidate of the People Party."
Regarding Ahn, who had been demanding unification through public opinion polls, changing his mind to a negotiation format, Lee explained, "After the previous breakdown announcement, most of the voters wishing for regime change have already shifted to our candidate, and in addition, some consolidation effects are emerging. From Ahn's perspective, as someone who shares the will for regime change, the thought of contributing must have grown stronger."
Lee did not expect the unification to significantly increase the approval rating of Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party's presidential candidate. He said, "Our candidate's inclusiveness shines, and above all, we expect synergy from the opposition in the final stages of the election. By holding joint campaigns with (Ahn), we can capture the hearts of voters who have not yet made up their minds."
Regarding the unification between former Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Kim Dong-yeon and Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Lee responded, "There is no significant political meaning in the unification between a former economic deputy prime minister of the Moon Jae-in administration and candidate Lee."

On the discussion of political reform-related bills proposed by Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party, Lee said, "I agree with the concept, but neither Song nor I are running in the presidential election. Having something like a working-level consultation at this critical time would have little meaning. It should be considered after the presidential election."
