[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Won Hee-ryong, head of the policy headquarters of the People Power Party's election campaign committee, harshly criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's focus on the so-called 'anti-Yoon Seok-yeol coalition' on the 2nd, saying it "creates a hodgepodge."
On the same day, Won appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and said, "Former President Roh Moo-hyun once said, 'Politics has a future only when you choose a principled defeat over a victory without principles.'"
He said, "(The Democratic Party) is now pulling in candidates like Kim Dong-yeon of New Wave and even Cho Won-jin of Our Republican Party. I don't know how many more votes that will add," adding, "If they still lose after doing that, it will be difficult to bear the aftereffects of identity conflicts and confusion that follow."
Won also pointed out, "What commonalities are there between Representative Cho Won-jin and Candidate Lee?" and said, "The public will think, 'This is a hodgepodge, they were in a hurry,' the moment they throw things together like that."
He continued, "When someone who does not spare any means or methods gains power, only those who flatter to justify themselves and those who agree to take private interests gather at the center of power. Then the country is swept into an unwanted, absurd whirlpool, so we must not give coercive power to wicked groups who do not spare means and methods and to lying leaders," he criticized.
He went on to say, "What they call political change or era change now is a sly wordplay to evade the absolute majority of the people's mandate for regime change and to disguise it."

Meanwhile, Kim Dong-yeon, the New Wave presidential candidate, held a press conference at his campaign office in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the same day, stating, "I am stepping down from the presidential candidacy today," and "From today, I will tie my shoelaces again to support Candidate Lee's election."
Earlier, it was reported on the 25th of last month that Candidate Lee had also conveyed to Cho Won-jin of Our Republican Party a request to join the Democratic Party's political reform proposal. In response, Cho reportedly said, "Candidate Lee first contacted me to propose a policy coalition, but I refused."

Through a press release, Cho said, "If Candidate Lee apologizes for the rude remarks, lies, and inhumane comments made to former President Park Geun-hye in the past, although I do not agree with Candidate Lee's message of national unity, I would understand the political significance in a broad sense." Cho is considered a representative pro-Park (pro-Park Geun-hye) figure.
